What is Breema, and where does it come from?

Breema bodywork is a joyful, nurturing, nonjudgmental method for restoring harmony and balance to the body. The bodywork is offered by a certified practitioner who has received extensive training in both the physical techniques and the underlying philosophy of Breema.

Many people find that Breema bodywork provides profound relaxation and release of physical, mental, and emotional tension. Over time, regular sessions of Breema can also lead to increased flexibility, a deeper sense of connection to the body, and an increased feeling of well-being.

Although the name "Breema" is often used as a shorthand reference to Breema bodywork, the bodywork itself is only one part of a larger theory and practice. There is also a collection of exercises called Self-Breema, which can be done anywhere by anyone who seeks relaxation and revitalization. Breema bodywork and Self-Breema are based on a deep but simple set of principles that aim toward a more truthful, natural, and harmonious way of living.

Breema was developed in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1970s by Dr. Jon Schreiber and a small group of colleagues. Dr. Schreiber currently directs The Breema Center in Oakland, California, where all Breema instructors receive their training.
